Workshop 1: Everything you wanted to know about responsive design... And less!

Brad Frost

Everything You Wanted to Know About Responsive Design…And Less! is a full-day masterclass that takes a deep dive into the world of responsive web design, covering everything including broad concepts, strategy, how responsive design affects process, responsive design patterns and principles, and more.

Oh, and the “…And Less” part? Responsive design is a huge topic so unfortunately it’s impossible to pack everything about it into a single day. But that doesn’t mean we can’t try, right? Here’s what will be covered:

  • The ever-shifting landscape – The web landscape is getting more diverse every single day, and this section will address why responsive web design is becoming increasingly essential
  • Approach – There’s more than one way to skin this mobile web cat. We’ll look at the various strategies being used to approach the multi-device Web landscape
  • Foundations of Responsive Design – Responsive web design 101. Fluid grids, flexible media and media queries make up the core of responsive web design
  • Principles of Adaptive Design – What beyond layout do we need to concern ourselves with when creating great multi-device web experiences? We’ll cover how ubiquity, flexibility, performance, enhancement and future-friendliness are powerful principles for making great adaptive web experiences.
  • Atomic Design– Introduce a design methodology for creating robust design systems, and introduce Pattern Lab, a tool for creating atomic design systems
  • Strategy and Workflow – Our websites are fluid, so our process and workflow needs to be fluid as well. This section will tackle thorny areas like convincing clients and colleagues, and discuss tools and techniques to effectively design in the Post-PSD Era.
  • Responsive Patterns – Creating adaptive interfaces is challenging, but thankfully the Web community is hard at work creating flexible, downright innovative design patterns. We’ll look at how to tackle layout, navigation, images, data tables, and really anything else you can put in an interface.
  • Development Best Practices – The way we build websites has changed. This section will discuss mobile-first development, conditional loading and more to help you develop future-friendly web experiences

Workshop 2: The hooked model

Nir Eyal

In an age of ever-increasing distractions, quickly creating customer habits is an important characteristic of successful products. How do companies create products people use every day? What are the secrets of building services customers love? How can designers create products compelling enough to “hook” users?

Nir Eyal, the author of Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products, has constructed a practical framework for designing better products. The framework gives product managers, designers, and marketers a new way for thinking of the necessary components of changing user behavior. Nir will share the tactics companies like Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Whatsapp, and Twitter use to drive engagement.

Habit design is a super power. If used for good, habit design can enhance people’s lives with entertaining and even healthful routines. If used for evil, habits can quickly turn into wasteful addictions.

Companies need to know how to harness the power of hooks to improve peoples’ lives. This workshop will provide attendees with a powerful toolkit and framework for creating better products and likely change the way attendees see the world.

Participants will learn:

  • The common design patterns of habit-forming products.
  • The stages of habit formation and how to optimize for user retention.
  • An in-depth look at the psychology behind what drives user behavior and how to build products to cater to core human needs
  • Practical steps for leading a habit design process to ensure your product is used regularly.

This workshop is for anyone seeking to understand habit-forming product design. The workshop is tailored to product managers, entrepreneurs, or designers working in companies large or small. Although no previous background is required, attendees are encouraged to come to the workshop with a product or business idea in mind.

  • Observator: Hvordan tar man gode notater?

Workshop 4: Conversion rate optimisation for ecommerce

Mo Syed

The design of your ecommerce experience is a key driver in conversion. Online retailers often ignore the opportunity to unlock sales performance through better design. This workshop shows you how to simply and consistently build a process to do this within your teams and realize the full sales potential of your product and brand in digital channels.

This workshop examines what goes on in your customers’ heads before they land on your site through the full range of experience. We will show you how to capture, analyse and understand these patterns of behavior and then produce a design in a transparent and repeatable way that will improve customer satisfaction, engagement and sales performance, whilst reducing returns and damaging brand experience.

We will dissect not only good, but also bad examples of all the major design parts of an ecommerce site, screen by screen. We will look at your brand’s design in the session so you can walk away with concrete ideas to work on.

By the end you will:

  • Have a psychological model to help understand why users behave the way they do in your digital channels
  • Understand the most practically applicable research for ecommerce design
  • Be able to use web analytics and a variety of data sources to objectively and sustainably guide design
  • Know how to plan and design an A/B and multivariate test
  • Have clear design case studies of what works and what doesn’t work for conversion
  • Be able to improve the design of all the key screens that make up a shopping experience on the web
  • You will be able to clearly identify what good design on mobile looks like and how to get there (using native and responsive/adaptive design)
  • You’ll be able to frame your next pitch in a way that will focus on creating real customer value
  • Leave at the end of the day with clear paths to improve customer satisfaction, engagement and sales

The workshop is useful for everyone who works with ecommerce from designers to ecommerce managers.
